Heartbreakers and heartthrobs

Are our heroes heartthrobs or heartbreakers? Or do those terms mean the same thing? Yummy right? Valentine's Day is just around the corner for this blog hop and we're gearing up to see what exactly is a heartbreaker. Is the song playing in your head line mine? "Cuz he's a heartbreaker!"  What makes a man a heartbreaker?  Is that a good or bad thing? Almost 300 bloggers have giveaways and posts about those men we love. But that's not all....

We have THREE grand prizes. You as a reader can go to EACH blog and comment with your email address and be entered to win. Yep, you can enter over 200 times!

Now what are those prizes?
1st Grand Prize: A Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet
2nd Grand Prize: A $100 Amazon or B&N Gift Card
3rd Grand Prize: A Swag Pack that contains paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more!
On Kisses, Caresses and Whispers in the Night, I'm giving away a $25 gift card to Victoria's Secret AND an ebook copy of Kiss Me Slowly (just let me know what format you'd like it when you leave your comment).  Hey, it's the weekend before Valentine's Day we need a better reason to indulge in fantasy?  To be eligible to win any of the grand prizes and/or my personal giveaway here, you MUST leave a comment that includes your email address.  Winners will be announced on February 12.

Okay, now that the schpeel is over...let's get started talking about heartbreakers and heartthrobs.

Personally, I have a weakness for bad with an edge.  Plain old vanilla doesn't do it for me.  This doesn't mean I like men who are cruel--far from it.  I like a guy who's confident in himself, who has an I-do-it-my-way attitude and who isn't afraid to be an alpha man.

When asked if I think heartthrobs and heartbreakers are the same thing, I have to say no.  I think they can be...but they aren't necessarily bound together as one.  A heartthrob to me is like this delicious specimen to my left.  He's gorgeous, he makes me want to lick his abdomen, but for all we know it's just a show.  He's hot, yes, but perhaps he's boring as a stick, stupid as a rock and only wants to talk about his abs.

A heartbreaker, on the other hand, he's the one we all need to watch out for, especially if he's got the looks to go with the attitude.  A heartbreaker has the personality, the charm, the intelligence, the savvy, the wit and knows it.  That's the key...he is well aware of his power and knows how to wield it.  A heartbreaker is sexy to us because he is the definition of the alpha man.  He doesn't need to be a heartthrob to do this.  I've met some average looking Joe's who were definite heartbreakers because of their attitude and the sheer power they projected.

Heartbreakers are the type of men who make great romantic leads. Why?  Because they're risky, they're elusive and they're fantasy worthy.  Again, in my real life, I'm drawn to this kind of man because he's got that edge and keeps life interesting.

Can a heartbreaker ever fall in love?  Yes...with a woman who has the confidence to go toe-to-toe with him, a woman willing to walk away and call him on his BS.

It's been my experience that heartbreakers only break hearts because they are, at their core, good guys.  That's their appeal--their innate goodness.  I've also learned that, once they fall in love, they are the most loyal of men.

In my novel, Riptide, Noah Reynolds is both heartthrob and heartbreaker.  He's got aloof and sexy down to a science, but inside he is a lonely guy who feels misunderstood.  Women have only wanted him for his money, his power or his body and that's what he's given them--but he's kept his heart hidden away.  And, to be honest, at first all Lauren wants from him is his body, too.  She looks at him and sees a sexy distraction from her problems.  But then she gets a glimpse of the good guy beneath the heartthrob facade and won't be satisfied with anything less than his heart.

We've all been heartbreakers in our lives.  Somewhere along our journey there's been someone who loved us yet we walked away--perhaps we didn't know or maybe we simply didn't feel the same.  We like to label a man a heartbreaker and think of him as cold, but in most cases he's simply protecting his heart because...perhaps...he's been hurt along the way, too.

Yes, my heart has been broken so often that I sometimes feel like Humpty Dumpty and know it cannot be put back together again.  But I know I've shattered my share of hearts along the way, too.  Love involves risk.  Isn't it worth it in the long run if you get your happily ever after?  What do you think about heartbreakers?  Are you up for the challenge they present or do you prefer easy?  Do you like vanilla or rocky road?

Thanks for the giveaway and participating in the hop!
I think that Christian Grey from "50 Shades of Grey" is a good example of a heartbreaker. He used and abused Ana at first, but then came to his senses by book two.

For me the heartbreaker is a bad boy who goes kicking and screaming into love! When he falls he falls hard! Give me the Rocky Road any day!

The only heartbreakers I have encountered are literary! And my all time fav is Mr Darcy! Although, I am currently crushing on Zadist from the Black Dagger Brotherhood!

I wouldn't say that my guy is vanilla, he's sexy, confident and grumpy enough not to say I love you on a first date. By the time he said it, I knew that he meant it. We've been together 34 years and I've never regretted it. kindle, please.

I've always liked a challenge and have a thing for bad boys. So I'd say bring it on. :)

We all want to love a Heartbreaker. Maybe its because of his chiseled good looks, his bad boy attitude, or the mysterious nature of him. Some Heartbreakers are just that, they know what they got and how to use it to get what they want. Then there are those Heartbreakers that don’t even realize that they are doing it. The best part about a Heartbreaker is that there is always a woman that turns their world upside down until they realize it is love. I have read many Romance Novels over the years and have run into many memorable Heartbreakers and my favorites are usually the ones that don’t even know they are Heartbreakers! Some of my personal favorite Heartbreakers are :

Kade Jamenson (Werewolf) from An Alpha’s Path. Kade is a sexy werewolf that will make you burn but a mishap with a potential mate makes him not think he will find love.

Ian MacPhie (Vampire) from All I Want For Christmas is a Vampire. Ian is a heartbreaking Highland Vampire that was frozen in his immortality when he was only 15. With the help of his friend he is given a drug that helps him age to 28 so he could look like a man instead of a child after hundreds of years. He has no idea that he looks of a warrior and the lover.

Lothaire Daciano (Vampire) from Lothaire. Lothaire is definitely a heartbreaker and his cocky attitude proves it! Thinks he’s a gift to women! Its just the sucker punch from a woman he doesn’t realize is his equal that brings him down a notch.

Marius Parker from His Contrary Bride. Marius is every part the gentlemen but doesn’t realize he could also easily be the rogue!

Benjamin Gateway from To Win His Wayward Wife. Benjamin doesn’t realize that he is a heartbreaker because the one woman he loved, he lost….or did he?

Fury North (Human with Canine DNA) from Fury and Valiant North (Human with Feline DNA) from Valiant. Fury and Valiant are strong New Species and gorgeous to boot, but because they are damaged they doesn’t think they can hold onto to the women they love.

Sigimor Cameron from Highland Conqueror. Sigimor is every bit the Highland Laird and warrior but can he hold onto to the beautiful English lady?

Joshua Striker (Werewolf) from Alexandra’s Legacy. Joshua is a scared and battle hard enforcer for his pack and he thinks that he doesn’t have what it takes to make the women melt.

I love reading about heartbreakers! They are usually bad-boys, they’re witty, funny and sexy and the female population is drooling after them lol

Interesting. You're right, there usually is a heartbreaker involved in a breakup and sometimes its us, even if unintentional. That said, I'm not totally convinced there's a good guy in every heartbreaker...or maybe sometimes it's just buried really deep?

Thanks for the chance to win, and if I'm the lucky one I prefer kindle format.

My favorite Heartbreaker is the one that your heart can’t live without. One of my best is Lucas from D B Reynolds book “LUCAS” (Vampire in America series). Strong mind, well put together and tender when he wants to be. And loves horses.

It is soooo worth it in the end. I don't think we can appreciate true love until we have all experienced heartbreak. It makes us realize our happily ever after when it comes along and sometimes loves is risky, but you won't know unless you take the risk. I was up for the challenge when I met my firefighter husband who was a heartbreaker because he was broken from his past. And I prefer rocky road, no vanilla here. Thanks for the chance to win your awesome giveaway!! VS = my favorite store. sbereza22(at)gmail(dot)com

I may not have much experience in the whole love department, but I have had my heart broken. Being considered a Heartbreaker can come from various actions that you do. I am a newbie when it comes to reading romance books but what I have learned is that it is not bad to have a chiseled body or an amazing personality. If you look at it over all, if you never put your heart out there, you may never have a chance at true love and happiness. I may get broken once in a while but only you are strong enough to pick yourself up and try all over again. One of my favorite Heartbreakers is Taylor Qualls the Earl of Sandlin from the book His Impetuous Debutante. Lady Phoebe kinda reminds me of myself, accident prone and finding trouble in every corner. Taylor doesn’t think he is good enough for Phoebe, so he’s a heartbreaker and doesn’t know it.

I try to avoid heartbreakers. But sometimes it is just inevitable. Although it may sometimes be worth it in the end

My personal heartbreak story is the story of my first love. I was 14 and he was 17. I thought he was the greatest thing ever...but he broke my heart and turned me down. Turned out he turned me down because he was gay, so he wasn't a heartbreaker on purpose. And I love a challenge! Oh and Rocky Road ;) ;)
